THE closure of the Oasis Leisure Centre is not expected to affect the development of the nearby North Star indoor ski slope and cinema complex.
A SevenCapital spokesperson said: “The closure of the Oasis is due to difficulties facing the leisure industry as an effect of the pandemic this year and is not related to the progress of the North Star development.
“With regards to the wider North Star development, we continue to work tirelessly to progress the project alongside Swindon Borough Council in what is a very difficult year for both the retail and leisure industries.”
Planning permission was granted for the £270m snow centre in November 2018 and shortly afterwards, Seven Capital said it hoped ground clearance could begin in spring 2019.
It then credited "business uncertainty" at least in part caused by Brexit last year for difficulties in raising all the cash needed but said at the end of 2019 that work was expected to start in the spring.
The pandemic put those plans on ice and it is not yet known when work will resume.
