ITV footage from more than 30 years ago shows youngsters getting their first taste of the Domebusters flumes which would attract thousands of thrill-seekers to Swindon.
The Oasis Leisure Centre installed the huge water slides for its 10th anniversary in 1987.
In a YouTube video, HTV reporter Lisa Aziz tried out the most gentle of the three slides, the Sidewinder.
The Screamer and, in particular, the Great White were seen as the ultimate challenge.
In the clip, Lisa says: “ At the moment I am 40 feet above the splash tank and what lies ahead of me is a very long water fill tube, in fact it’s about a hundred meters long which makes it the biggest waterslide in the country and now that I’m here I can’t exactly chicken out of not having a go so.”
The centre briefly became Wiltshire’s most popular tourist attraction.
After four years of being closed, landlord Seven Capital has revealed plans for the area, including the restoration of the centre.
