A BMW driver hit 54mph in a 30 zone, a court heard.
Kieran McGarvie’s BMW 235 was clocked at 54mph on the Great Western Way opposite Screwfix, near Bruce Street Bridges on April 29, 2020.
Wiltshire Police prosecutor Mike Smith told Swindon Magistrates’ Court the road was subject to a 30mph speed limit – although there was a 50mph limit further back.
McGarvie, 22, of Tollard Close, Nythe, pleaded guilty to speeding.
However, he questioned aspects of the police’s case, raising concerns that he had not been shown footage from the video camera worn by the officer who stopped him.
He told magistrates it wasn’t clear from his speeding ticket whether the officer had written down 54mph or 34mph and whether his speed was recorded at a distance of 200 metres or yards.
Mr Smith said he had reviewed the video footage, which had not been provided as the speeding charge was admitted and the case not prepared for trial, and was confident the officer had recorded the car’s speed as 54mph.
Magistrates imposed six penalty points and fined McGarvie £322.
He was ordered to pay £142 in costs and surcharge.
