A 14-year-old boy was remanded into youth detention – after he smashed a kebab shop window.
The boy, who cannot be named as he is under-18, is awaiting sentence for an unprovoked assault on a 13-year-old and possession of a knife and a machete.
Last month, magistrates remanded him to the care of the council’s youth offending team with a curfew and a prohibition from going to Cavendish Square, Park South.
On Saturday morning, Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard the boy had punched the window of MJ Kebab and Pizza in Cavendish Square at around 6.45pm on Friday night – 15 minutes before his curfew was due to begin.
Prosecutor Emma Charleton said the teenager told police in his interview that he’d been angry and rather than punch a person he hit the window instead.
Emma Hillier, defending, said her client realised the grave situation he’d put himself in. He had accepted responsibility for his actions, speaking in his police interview rather than remaining silent as he had done previously.
Magistrates remanded the boy into youth detention. He will be sentenced on all matters, including causing grievous bodily harm, by the district judge tomorrow.
