REVEALED: The best fish and chips in Swindon - voted for by you!

Recommendations flooded in after we asked you to champion your chippy of choice.

Phillips on Cricklade Road in Gorse Hill and York Road emerged as the clear favourites, with Thames Avenue not far behind.

Votes for Kingsdown Fish Bar, Monica's in St Andrew's Ridge and Wichelstowe Fish Bar each reached into double digits.

There was small but vocal support for the chippies in Eldene, Penhill and Pinehurst as well as Magic Chippy, Britz, Trident, Britannia, The Harbour in Royal Wootton Bassett, The Fish Company on Grange Drive, and Happy Cod in Taw Hill.

Plus, the odd mention came in for Andy's Fish and Chips on Marlowe Avenue, the Royal Oak in Old Town, Top Fry on Ferndale Road, Lucy's Fish Bar, Cricklade Chip Shop, Moredon Fish Bar, the Redhouse chippy, the Roughmoor Centre, Faringdon Road chippy, and Four Seasons in Purton.

These are some of the compelling arguments given for why some chip shops are batter than the rest.

PHILLIP'S

Penny Goodall siad: "The best fresh cooked fish, and yummy chips in Swindon

Pete O’Driscoll said: "I often travel 80 miles on my motorbike to get the best fish and chips in town, but they do tend to need heating up a little when I get back. 10/10."

Michael Lakey said: "Lovely food and decent fish, you will not be disappointed."

MONICA'S

Trish Read said: "We have a community group and before lockdown would order 30 portions of fish and chips.

"When we collected them, they were put into boxes for transportation and were always fresh cooked and hot.

"Hopefully we will be able to resume some of those activities again soon."
