THE baby care unit at Great Western Hospital has got a shiny new pushchair thanks to a nurse’s thoughtful actions.

Staff nurse for the neonatal unit Leanne Kent requested it for the GWH’s special care baby unit as the one the team uses is worn and uncomfortable.

Leanne said: “We have one that’s about 20 years old but it does the job and gets babies from A to B. But we had to put one of our mattresses on it because it’s not the nicest to be in.”

Leanne approached high street store Mamas & Papas as it had donated a previous pram. And the firm was more than happy to help, with store manager Lauren Palmer personally donating a bouncy chair.

She added: “It will improve the journey when they go, so it could be up to X-ray or ultrasound. It’s a nice thing after a really rubbish year that will make people smile.”

Leanne has also been handing out small gift bags to brighten a colleagues' day each with a kind message to let people know how appreciated they are. She did seven treat bags and handed them to anyone she met that day whether that be from senior staff, a cleaner or a pharmacist.

“They are like little pick-me-ups and have gone down really well with everyone,” Leanne said.

“Aside from the challenges related to coronavirus, the SCBU team have had a challenging year and this has really helped to lift morale and spread positivity.”
