STREET reps in Penhill have cleared away nearly four tonnes of rubbish from one small field.
By working with Swindon Borough Council, Central Swindon North Parish Council and neighbourhood wardens, the Penhill street reps tidied up a green space on Hilmarton Avenue over two days.
Street reps' team leader Di Pithers said: "I was shocked by how much rubbish there was in such a small area.
"Pushchairs, doors, deep fat fryers, hoovers, rubble, there was all sorts. And it wasn't just fly-tipping, there was ground work needed to clear green waste.
"Now it can be used for the people whose homes back onto it, and vehicles can access it to help maintain the field.
"I can't fault the team, they have been especially busy over the last few weeks."
After the big clean-up, the team planted 450 trees for a new wood over three days.
Di added: "The team is so selfless, giving up their free time and putting in so much effort to help the community.
"I won't see the trees fully-grown but the next generation will.
"Anyone aged 11 and over can be a street rep, we're always looking for more volunteers and donations of gardening tools and gloves."
