A SWINDON man died after his car crashed on the northbound carriageway of the A419.
The accident happened at about 4.10pm this afternoon when the 65-year-old's green MG collided with an oncoming silver Vauxhall Vectra. He died at the scene as his car lay upside down in a ditch.
The MG's female passenger was taken to the Great Western Hospital where her condition is described as serious but not life threatening.
The family travelling in the Vectra received minor injuries.
Accident investigators are currently examining the scene and the northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed between the Turnpike roundabout and Cricklade for at least the next hour.
Speaking at the scene, PC Steve Whitehead, of the Northern Roads Policing Unit, said early investigations had found the MG had entered the A419 from the Castle Eaton junction and collided with the Vectra, which was travelling northbound towards Cricklade.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact PC Whitehead on 0845 408 7000.
