UPDATE: Swindon Borough Councillor Vijay Manro has provided an update to residents in Highworth stating that the group have been a Section 61 Notice to the group, which requires all occupiers of the area to leave under Police Enforcement Powers.
The group have until 10am on 24th July to leave Highworth Rec, and will not be offered further time.
POLICE say they have stepped up their presence in Highworth after travellers set up camp on the town's Rec.
The town council warned locals about human poo in water troughs, a mum told the Adver she had been verbally abused by the group and the leisure centre suspended its activities after the travellers moved in on Tuesday night.
Inspector Colin Conway from Wiltshire Police said: "We were made aware of a group of travellers who have based themselves at Highworth Town FC earlier this week.
“We’ve liaised with the local authorities and further attendance will be made later today to engage with them.
“The residents of Highworth will see an increased police presence in the area and we are aware of the community concerns that have been raised through numerous forums.
“We’re currently utilising powers under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act to bring this to a successful conclusion.
