NEW College students celebrated exceptional A Level results.
The college saw more than a quarter of nearly 1,200 students achieve A*s or As and just over half getting B or above. Some 23 subjects had a 100 per cent pass rate and 60 Level 3 vocational diploma students achieved the highest grades of triple Distinctions.
Some will go on to study at the new Institute of Technology which opens next month.
Principal and CEO Carole Kitching said: “I want to say a massive congratulations to all of our students on their A-level and BTEC results.
“They have worked so hard over the past two years under such difficult circumstances and we are really proud of all of them and the success that they have achieved. I would also like to thank all my colleagues who have worked so hard to support our students.
“They will progress to university, apprenticeships and careers; some of them to higher education here at New College as well as our new Institute of Technology, launching next month.
“I want to wish all the students who have received their results every success for the future.”
Alicia Messenger (left) achieved: AAC in Graphic Design and Illustration and Spanish and is Progressing to study a Foundation Diploma in Art, Media and Design here at New College! She said: “I am so excited! A lot of pressure has been taken off my shoulders and I feel a lot of energy”
Kirsten Reed (right) achieved A*BC in Extended Project Qualification, Sociology and Biology and will work full-time at her current job in a pharmacy and consider university in 2022! She said: “There were good teachers and I made good friends at New College. Teachers really made an effort to adapt to online teaching.”
Shannon Whiteley achieved: AAAB in English Literature, Geography, Extended Project Qualification and History and is off to study Criminology at University of Bath!
She said: "I loved my subjects and my teachers were always so helpful and lovely to me. I have made amazing memories and friends at New College."
Jack Browning achieved D*D*C in Performing Arts - Dance and Psychology and is off to Falmouth University to study Dance and Performing.
He said: "My courses were engaging and I had support from my teachers all the way. I have made a family here, who I can always rely on. So, thankyou to New College for these amazing two years!"
New College student Tom Sandwell achieved D*D*D*A* in Sport & Exercise Science and Extended Project Qualification and is off to University of Plymouth to study Physiotherapy. He was over the moon with his results and said: "I can't wait to start at university in September!"
Liam Holmes achieved: A*A*A*A* in History, Ancient History, Government and Politics and the Extended Project Qualification and is off to Peterhouse College at the University of Cambridge to study History.
He said: “I am really pleased and excited for what’s coming next. The teaching staff at New College are its biggest strength as staff teach with great enthusiasm for their course.”
Anais Barros achieved A*A*A*A* in Geography, History, Classical Civilisation and the Extended Project Qualification and is planning to study Archaeology at the University of Durham.
She said: “I am surprised and delighted with my results and really excited to be going to Durham. College was an enjoyable, interesting and engaging experience even through the lockdowns!”
Bisma Selham, from New College, achieved D*D*D* in a BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science and will take up a place at the University of Warwick to study Biomedical Science.
She said: “New College has great facilities and provided me with many support sessions and extracurricular activities. The teachers and my peers were very supportive and friendly and they motivated me to dream bigger.”
