The buildings used in the manufacture of cars for for than three decades will be demolished, Panattoni’s plans reveal.
The developer is looking to construct 'up-to-date and hi-tec new warehouse and logistics facilities' and industrial units to attract new companies to Swindon.
Its 36-page glossy brochure says the existing buildings will have to go.
The company says it will want to build facilities for a range of industrial uses, including light industrial, storage and distribution and general industrial and manufacturing, which will help to deliver significant new jobs.”
And it emphasises it will be building to attract manufacturing firms to Swindon.
The company says there is a need in the area for new facilities: "Across the South West and the country more widely the supply of new manufacturing, logistics and distributions buildings has failed to keep up with demand.”
It says it will deliver high quality accommodation from differing companies, both large and small.
Panattoni says it will put in two planning applications. The first, an outline proposals will be for the main developable areas of the site, including the broad locations of the new buildings, their floor space, height and land uses.
The full application will seek approval for the demolition work and will show changes to the boundaries and landscaping.
