A new shop has opened in Purton on the edge of Swindon with the express intent of allowing shoppers to cut down on their plastic waste.
Andrew Hiscock, who runs the family butchers in the village has opened Bare Bones, a zero waste store in the same shop in The Parade.
It stocks both food and household goods such as lavatory paper and toothpaste in tablet form so people aren’t throwing away plastic packaging.
Customers are able to take along their own containers for a range of frozen fruit and berries, vegetables, pastries and potato products and a selection of dried products including nuts, pasta, grains, cereals, and rice.
As you’d expect from a butcher there is fresh meat and faggots and pies, all pre-packed in compostable or fully recyclable packaging.
Bare Bones also stocks environmentally friendly soaps, cleaning chemicals, shampoos and shampoos.
Customers can bring an old bottle to fill, or buy a re-usable bottle they can bring back again and again.
