A lifeline might be thrown to Apsley House by South Swindon Parish Council to keep it going as the home of the town's Museum & Art Gallery.
A motion has been table for the parish council's meeting this week which, if passed, could see Old Town Library open in Apsley House and the museum and gallery kept open.
The motion instructs the lower tier authority to : "Investigate the opportunity for South Swindon Parish Council to amalgamate the Old Town Library service with the museum and art gallery based in Apsley House."
The parish council will look at asking the borough council to transfer responsibility for the building in Bath Road to it for seven to 10 years and to be given £400,000 set aside for repairs.
The motion will be discussed at the meeting starting at 7.15pm on Wednesday.
