Brave adrenaline junkies took to the roof of the GWH to abseil 90ft – all with the aim of helping the hospital reach new heights.

The 46 charitable thrillseekers completed the challenge.

Out of them, 33 worked for the Trust. Participants included staff members from the A&E department, discharge lounge and audiology.

Some abseilers did the event in January 2020, so this was their second time taking the plunge.

The sponsorship money is still coming in, but so far the participants have raised £6,058.

Community and events fundraising manager at Brighter Futures Kenresa Stratford said: “We were delighted to be able to hold this after the last 18 months of uncertainty around events.

“Everyone who took part were superstars not only in their amazing fundraising but in their bravery in abseiling down the building.

“It was a fantastic day and we thank everyone who participated and fundraised for the charity, as well as their supporters.”

The abseil was the second of its kind to be put on by Brighter Futures with local company Rocky Ventures, whose owner Brian Hall, is a former hospital employee.

Brighter Futures wanted to thank the 1st Dorcan Scouts for loaning the equipment for the event.
