Swindon’s Bangladeshi community is having a golden celebration on Saturday to mark the anniversary of the country’s independence.
This year’s anniversary is a special one because it has been 50 years since Bangladesh won independence from Pakistan – a golden jubilee.
To commemorate this milestone, Swindon’s British Bangladeshi borough and parish councillors from have organised an event at New College to celebrate.
They will also be showcasing a special film written and directed by a British-born Bangladeshi based on the independence of the country.
Swindon mayor Gary Perkins, South Swindon MP Robert Buckland, council leader David Renard and other key figures will be attending.
The event will start at noon on Saturday.
