A 23-year-old actor from Swindon has been cast as Ed Sheeran in the first feature film about the famous musician.
From Suffolk, With Love, will follow Sheeran and his three friends as the singer embarks on his career.
Jack Edwards, who goes by the name Jack Caulfield, was shocked when he heard that he’d bagged his first major role in the film produced by Patrick Scott Morris.
He said: “The producer reached out to me because I met the requirements he was looking for and then there was a process of recording three tapes. It’s amazing. It was a bit of a shock at the start and so weird to hear I got the part.
“Ed obviously has a massive fan base and I think it’s really exciting that people have so much love for him. It does put a bit of pressure on me but I’ve been picked for a reason so I have to have a bit of faith in myself.”
Sheeran has sold more than 150 million records which makes him one of the world’s best-selling artists.
Jack added: “The producer wants me to take parts of Ed Sheeran and then add my own spin on it. I will be getting a custom-made ginger wig because it needs to be consistent!
“Ed’s a very down-to-earth and genuinely nice guy who loves music. It seems almost as if he became accidentally famous and he plays it off so well.”
Jack’s career has progressed rapidly in a tough industry made tougher by the pandemic. He first started acting at New College and got involved with Prime Theatre’s productions at the Wyvern.
While many were leaving the profession during the pandemic months, this was the time when Jack decided to get serious about pursuing his dream. “I’d rather just say I’d given it a really good go because I don’t want to look back in 10 years time and be ashamed that I hadn’t given it my all.
“I was studying film at uni and doing my dissertation during lockdown. From a mental health perspective, it was horrendous but I thought I need to take acting seriously now because this is what I love doing.”
After that epiphany, Jack secured his first role in a feature film, Evil Genie, and has gone on to appear in Amazon Prime series A Series of Light.
The young actor, who grew up in Moredon and Westlea, also used the last year to finally get his ADHD diagnosis. He said: “I was so stressed out about what I was going to do in life because I needed an outlet and I find it really hard to concentrate and sit down for more than 15 minutes so I’m really thankful to be doing something practical and creative.”
