NEW plans for the continuing growth of Wichelstowe in 2022 have been revealed.

The project team for the fast-expanding Swindon neighbourhood have released a video detailing what homeowners in the area can expect to see – and there are plans for the building of new homes, infrastructure and fresh planning applications.

Swindon Advertiser:

Existing work in the areas marked by the green areas numbered one, two and three in the image above is due to be completed, with all new homeowners settling in, roads finished and offered for adoption and landscaping work done.

Work has already started on the Wichel Fields area, marked in blue with the number five. This area is being built by Barratt Homes and houses will go on sale in early 2022.

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes will be teaming up to build the Orchards View and Orchards Rise sections of the Orchards marked as blue four and six above.

Swindon Advertiser:

This will be the first area of the site developed off of Scott Way – one of Wichelstowe’s major roads – and will start in January.

The first infrastructure project was the closure of the northern section of Mill Lane and it is now complete. That section of road has now been turned into a pedestrian/cycle track.
Work on a new Mill Lane roundabout south of ‘Parcel 1’ should be completed in late spring.

Projects planned for next year include work on Scott Way in the Orchards, extending it to the south, and in Wichel Fields, with the building of a road connecting the in-progress new roundabout and Foxham Way

Swindon Advertiser:

There will also be improvements to the existing bend from Blackhorse Way into Foxham Way.

The area to the right of Wichel Fields in the bottom corner of the plan is currently a material stockpile. That material will be used to create noise bunds nearby and will eventually be turned into a playing field and play area.

The project team will be submitting a number of additional planning applications, which are set to add another 600 homes to the area with more developments in the Canalside, Orchards and Wichel Fields areas.

There will also be an application for the final section of Scott Way, which will link up with the Southern Access Road and the underpass under the M4.

Plans for the connection between Scott Way and the District Centre, which includes a bus only link across green space, as well the District Centre car park will also be submitted.

Permission will also be sought for a further extension of the canal, which will link the District Centre stretch with the one at East Wichel.

This will also include a crossing under Mill Lane and a footbridge.
