A TEENAGE boy has been arrested after a stabbing in front of shocked shoppers in Swindon town centre.

Thursday's terrifying incident happened in broad daylight after two gangs of youths clashed. A 17-year-old is being questioned by police on suspicion of affray and also for possession of class B drugs with intent to supply.

Police responded to the disorder in The Parade at roughly 3.30pm. 

A teenage boy was stabbed close to JD Sports in nearby Canal Walk and taken to hospital for injuries thought not to be life threatening. A woman in her 60s suffered minor injuries after she became caught up in the incident.

Police were seen cordoning off an area inside sports retailer JD Sports with crime scene tape shortly after the attack took place, before officers put in place a wide cordon outside the shop. 

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police reassured the public that there is no wider danger and appealed for witnesses as the investigation continues.  

They said: "There is no indication of any wider threat to the public and additional patrols will be operating in the town centre throughout the day and overnight for further reassurance.

"Our enquiries are continuing and we would like to hear from anyone who may have recorded footage of this incident or who may have other information to share."
