Medical staff from Great Western Hospital and Swindon's director of public health have joined in a recent Twitter trend where they explain why they got vaccinated against coronavirus in a bid to encourage more people to get jabbed.
NHS workers have been sharing their reasons for taking up the vaccine along with a picture of themselves in their uniforms and the hashtag #GetVaccinated.
Tony Pickworth, a consultant in intensive care at GWH, opened up about consoling all the distraught families of unvaccinated patients who died in his department.
My name is Tony Pickworth. I’m a Consultant in Intensive Care @GWH_NHS Swindon. I’m triple vaccinated because I believe in the science. I have seen so many unvaccinated people die of COVID in our ICU, and tried to console their distraught families. pic.twitter.com/oxUuO9W8K1

It comes after an unvaccinated doctor was caught on Sky News challenging the health secretary Sajid Javid about the government's plan to make Covid jabs compulsory for NHS staff.
GWH supported the latest campaign and praised the involvement of staff.
I'm a Director of Public Health & am double vaccinated and boosted. I believe #Vaccination is the single most important thing we can do to avoid becoming seriously ill or dying from #Covid19. Please get vaccinated 🙏 @ADPH pic.twitter.com/Y4UdimcvXM

A spokeswoman said: “The vaccine is extremely important in the fight against COVID-19, and is proven to be the best way of reducing your chances of needing hospital treatment if you do contract the virus.
I am an Assistant Director for Infection Prevention and Control. I’m vaccinated and have had my booster. Vaccination is the most important thing I can do to protect my loved ones, my colleagues and patients. It reduces morbidity, mortality & reduces ICU admissions.#GetVaccinated pic.twitter.com/Un17gnsKAT

"Our staff have seen first-hand the effects of COVID-19 having worked through the pandemic for almost two years and we back their call for everyone to have the vaccine.
“It’s not too late for you to get vaccinated or boosted – you can book a slot online or visit a local walk-in clinic.”
I am a lead palliative care & end of life nurse and triple vaccinated as are my family.
