Swindon is home to many popular restaurant brands like Nandos, Wagamamas and Giraffe to name just a few.

But there are many chains across the UK people feel are missing from the town's selection.

We asked Adver readers what Swindon's major restaurant blindspots were and which iconic eateries they absolutely want to see bring their delicious delicacies a little closer to home.

TGI Fridays

Swindon Advertiser:

Famous for its American casual dining and cocktails, and its beloved Jack Daniel's sesame chicken, TGI Fridays was a popular choice.

Swindon did have a TGI Fridays in Shaw Ridge, but the restaurant closed there many years ago and the building is now home to the independently-owned Ridge bar and grill.

Despite this, many people would love to see the American chain return to town to get that 'Friday feeling', otherwise the nearest ones currently are Reading, Cheltenham and Bristol.

Andrew Thompsons said: "TGI Fridays would be ace."

Karen Higson added: "Definitely TGI Fridays."

Turtle Bay

Swindon Advertiser:

The Caribbean-cuisine-come-cocktail bar has proven to be extremely popular for both its food and drink offerings, particularly during the period it offers 2-for-1 cocktails.

While TGI Friday's was the overwhelmingly popular choice among Adver Readers there were plenty of calls for the self-proclaimed 'best Caribbean restaurant and bar in Britain' to add Swindon to its list of South West venues.

Currently, anyone looking to get some jerk chicken and curry goat has to travel to Oxford, Bath, Cheltenham or Bristol.

Judy Adams, Kirsty Terri Louise Davies, Christopher Keith Carlton and Rachel Whettam were among some of the people craving Caribbean.

Zaa Zaa Bazaar

Swindon Advertiser:

Another popular choice was Zaa Zaa Bazaar, an all-you-can-eat extravaganza offering a smorgasboard of food from across the world.

There's only one Zaa Zaa Bazaar in the UK at the moment, situated just a short trip down the M4 in Bristol's harbourside.

It has an overwhelming variety of cuisines from Italian, to Indian, to Chinese as well as food stations where guest food is freshly prepared has made it an incredibly popular venue in the South West city as well as people from neighbouring Swindon

Wendy Jones said in all caps:"ZA ZA BAZZAR"

Honourable mentions

Other popular choices were Mexican restaurant Wahaca, East-Asian inspired Itsu, Las Iguanas and Slug and Lettuce. But there were also a lot of responses calling for new independent foot outlets to open.

In recent months Regent Circus' Dough&Co and Funky Grilla as well as Highworth's and Salam's are all on-chain restaurants that have opened in Swindon, with Fiesta De Cuba set to join them at Greenbridge next month.
