A MAN has been arrested after a vehicle ended up in a ditch off a motorway roundabout in the early hours of this morning.
The 25-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs after his white Volkswagen left the road at Badbury roundabout.
Police were informed of the crash at 3.40am.
A spokesperson added that the driver of the vehicle was seen running from the vehicle before being located nearby and being arrested.
The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
Two lanes of the roundabout, at Junction 15 of the M4, were closed close to the exit with the A346 as recovery crews pulled the stricken vehicle free this morning.
However, it has since reopened and traffic is moving freely.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called by a member of the public at 3.40am today (12/02) reporting that a car had left the M4 roundabout and come to rest on the verge beside the M4.
“The driver was seen running from the vehicle.
“The 25-year-old man was located nearby and arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.
“He was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and is currently in police custody.”
Badbury roundabout at Junction 15 is the main gateway into Swindon from the east, at the junction of the A419, M4 and A346.
