A “lonely” father-of-two was snared by undercover cops when he thought he was telling the mother of a nine-year-old girl that he wanted to sexually abuse her daughter.

David Nye sent graphic messages to a woman he met online, and had arranged to meet her and her daughter.

He would list the horrific acts he wanted to perform on the child which included tying her up.

It was all in a bid to “sexually educate” her, he told the mother.

However, the woman was an undercover police officer, and Nye was arrested when he tried to meet them at a restaurant in Chippenham last July.

He was jailed at Swindon Crown Court on Monday, and said he had turned to the internet because he was in a “lonely place without support”.

Shortly after meeting the mother of the nine-year-old girl online, married man Nye started to message her regularly on Kik, choosing the messenger app because of its ability to delete messages every time it logs out.

Prosecutor David Ryan told the court that Nye wanted to find a single parent to stay with him whilst his partner was out of the country, and “who would understand family closeness”.

Nye likened his wishes to a “fantasy”, saying he “has not done anything like this before”.

Other horrendous acts he spelled out included oral rape, and watching the girl’s mother undress her.

He also said that he would tie up the girl, and abuse her with objects. He told the mother “no pain, no gain”, and that “nothing is off limits”.

On July 29, 2021, the 56-year-old travelled from work directly to Brewers Fayre at Cepen Park, Chippenham, where he was due to meet the fictitious mum and her daughter.

However, he was instead confronted by police officers.

A search of his car revealed various vegetables and tablets for erectile dysfunction.

Meanwhile, at his home, Haribo sweets, ropes and straps, and a picture of a naked toddler were found.

“He said he had things missing in his life, that things had gone wrong, that he regrets [it] and does not know what to say,” Mr Ryan continued.

Defending, Charles Rowe said that, Nye, of Stoney Stile Way, Wells, told him that in his “heart of hearts” the acts would not have taken place.

“There is this conflict that he finds it very difficult to articulate. To him it was about naturism, it was a natural thing that would have enabled him to communicate things better.”

Mr Rowe added that his client “turned to the internet, back to his naturist side” when he was at a “low point in his relationship”.

But he also highlighted that the undercover officer was “enthusiastic” in her responses, and that Nye felt it amounted to “entrapment”.

He said that the woman told Nye that she lost her virginity to her father at the age of 10, and that she and her daughter “carried that on”.

Mr Rowe added that oral sex and sex toys were first raised by the decoy.

Sentencing, Judge James Townsend said that the evidence in the texts was “large and luminous”.

“One simply cannot ignore the really grotesque nature of what you said, and that you drove to a public house intending to perform the things you were talking about.

“It goes without saying that this offending is so serious that a prison sentence must follow.”

He jailed Nye for three years, whilst he must also sign on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
