A CARPENTER has been left out of pocket and his young children traumatised after tools worth £4,000 were stolen from his van.
The crime in Buckingham Road, Lawn, was caught on a neighbour's CCTV and now the family is appealing for information.
It happened at around 4am on Tuesday morning and Hannah Checchia got in touch with the Adver to share the footage in the hope the equipment crucial to her husband Daniel's job can be found.
The thieves - said by police to be in their 30s and wearing builder-type clothing - made off with items such as nail guns, batteries, and chop saws.
And Hannah said the ordeal had taken its toll on the family.
She said: “It’s people’s livelihoods they are ruining.
“It’s more the effect on the children, they are now worried they will come back again or try the house and no child should ever feel that way in their own home.”
Hannah said the suspects were outside for around 15 minutes and they made multiple trips to and from a van which was parked around the corner.
They then loaded the tools into a large white van which was caught on a neighbour’s camera.
Mrs Checchia said that crime had meant her husband could not do any more work as a carpenter until he could replace the tools and as a result it would impact the family income.
When asked to comment a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police, said: “We can confirm we have received a report of theft from a vehicle that occurred on March 1 at approximately 4am.
“The vehicle was parked at a property on Buckingham Road, Swindon, at the time of the incident with tools taken from the van.
“Our investigations are at an early stage, but it is believed there are two suspects, both men, aged approximately in their 30s, who were wearing builder type clothing, tracksuit bottoms and trainers and wearing snoods to cover their faces.
“We have also received a report of a similar incident where items have been stolen from another van outside a property also on Buckingham Road at approximately 3.30am this morning.
"We are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents are linked.
“Anyone with any information on either of these incidents or who spotted anything suspicious in this area or has CCTV from the area are asked to call us on 101 and quote crime reference number 54220021175.”
