MOTORISTS in Swindon continue to be hit hard by rocketing fuel prices.

The average price of fuel in the UK has gone up to 163.5p, while the average cost of a litre of diesel is now 173.4p.

Just last month, prices at forecourts were 148.0p per litre for petrol and 151.6p for diesel.

Oil prices soared following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, leading to higher wholesale costs for fuel retailers.

According to petrolprices.com, nearly every fuel station in Swindon is charging well over 160p per litre for either petrol or diesel.

It lists the most expensive place in Swindon to buy fuel as the BP station on Marlborough Road in Coate, where the price is 179.9p per litre for diesel.

The filling station also charges 169.9p per litre for petrol making it one of the most expensive places in Swindon to purchase fuel.

On Dorcan Way, the Esso garage charges the same amount for diesel and the same amount for petrol.

The BP garage on Bridge End Road in Stratton is currently charging 178.9p a litre for diesel and 164.9p per litre for petrol.

Other places where petrol is expensive, include the Esso Chisledon Camp service station on Marlborough Road and the Shell fuel station in Shrivenham Road.

They charge 168.9p and 166.9p respectively.

The cheapest place to buy fuel overall in Swindon is the Sainsbury’s on Oxford Road in Stratton. Petrol is currently being charged at a rate of 160.9p a litre, whereas diesel is being sold for 169.9 per litre.

Asda at West Swindon shopping centre is another place in the town where fuel is cheap. The service station is currently selling unleaded for 160.7p a litre and 172.7p per litre for diesel.

Tesco on Ocotal Way is slightly more expensive at 160.9p per litre for petrol, but it charges the same amount for diesel as the Asda in West Swindon.
