People living in Swindon who are fed up with trying to get hold of their doctor are being targeted by a new Channel 5 show coming to town.

GPs: Mobile Surgery, from the makers of GPs: Behind Closed Doors,  has set its sights on Swindon and is looking for people to have a real doctor's appointment while on camera.

An advert for the show that has circulated on social media says: "Fed up of GP appointments over the phone? Have you been unable to see your GP face-to-face due to Covid? Have a complaint that you'd like a GP to take a look at? Visit our free mobile GP surgery!"

The show will be setting up a mobile GP surgery in the town, bringing with it its own doctors. It will then record and broadcast patients from Swindon visiting these doctors.

"We are thrilled to be setting up a free-to-use mobile GP surgery in Swindon, where our doctors will be ready to welcome anyone with concerns; nothing is too big or too small!

"So whether you have a long-running medical concern, want a second opinion or have a problem that you'd like to get checked out, then we'd love to hear from you."

Filming is due to take place in the summer, although it is not yet known where the show will be setting up its mobile surgery in the town, how many doctors there will be, and how long it will be filming for.

For many in the town, the timing of this show couldn't be better as recent figures showed that 15 of Swindon’s 22 surgeries have a higher number of patients registered per full-time equivalent (FTE) doctor than the local average across the whole of the region's Clinical Commissioning Group area.

"What a brilliant idea my surgery keeps you on the phone for ages when you get through there’s no appointments and then tells you to go on a consult then when you do they then tell you to ring your surgery, your just going round in circles," said one resident responding to the advert.

"Brilliant! Given the surgery that I have recently moved to in the last year and the shocking shocking service received I’m up for this and I’m low maintenance," another added.

The show is open to Swindon residents, and people from surrounding areas as well.
