Channel 4 sale

An open letter to Robert Buckland: Following the debacle where Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries told a Select Committee that Channel 4 was publicly funded and when corrected seemed to lose the ability to speak, your government is going ahead with its sale.

Why would you do this? Then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher started Channel 4 to great fanfare (I remember it well) and the channel has been a shinning beacon for British innovation and broadcasting ever since. It works really well because it is not beholden to shareholders and does not receive a penny of our taxes.

I sincerely hope that you will not be supporting this crass and disgraceful act of self sabotage simply because the leaders debate on the environment in 2019 placed an ice globe on the pedestal because Boris Johnson was too scared to turn up.

Choice of worst PM

I had absolutely no doubt that Steve Cowdry would respond to my recent letter in which I stated that I did not think Boris Johnson was the worst Prime Minister in living memory; what I didn’t imagine was that he would falsely represent my words.

I wrote “I did not think Boris Johnson was the worst Prime Minister in living memory.”

Steve opines that “sadly, he doesn’t let us know who he thinks that might be.”

He suggests David Cameron, and Theresa May, I agree with him. I would add John Major, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, each for reasons which I don’t think need explanation at this time.

He criticises me for making a factual statement, I wrote “For the majority who voted to leave the political construct of the EU, there was no let down whatsoever.”

Steve and his europals would have us all believe that those who didn’t exercise their right to vote in 2016 were all remainers. I don’t believe he is right, but it really doesn’t matter, all that matters is the number of votes cast for and against the referendum proposition.

I call on Steve to reconsider the falsehood he makes. He states I claimed the government is responsible for the success in fighting Covid. I wrote nothing of the sort. What I did write was “that when anything goes wrong with the NHS the blame is laid at the door of the Government, when things go right, the fantastic NHS deserve the credit."
