People have been giving their reaction after a tongue-in-cheek sign appeared at a set of roadworks in Swindon.
On Tuesday, the sign appeared at the top of Paddington Drive at The Meads Roundabout, saying; “Sorry about the cones, but we can’t be a**** to fix the road properly.
“Love, Swindon Borough Council.”
While the council say the closure is nothing to do with them, drivers using the junction claim they have faced traffic chaos with cars queueing thanks to the extra cones and signage.
Motorists have struggled to leave Sainsbury's car park because of the congestion.
One motorist clearly had enough with the makeshift sign.
Some drivers complained that no workmen could be seen sorting out the hole in the road which had made the lane closure necessary.
One motorist claimed no workers have been seen on-site fixing the problem since the cones went up on April 8.
He added: "Not one workman has been seen and the worst we can see is a small fist-sized hole in the road.
"We wouldn't mind cones if they actually had workers on site doing something but there's been a week of traffic chaos and no action at all.
"Someone needs to provide answers as there are more road cones across Swindon than there are motorists."
Now local politicians have been giving their reaction to the chaos.
Labour’s Jim Robbins, said: “The Labour group really sympathise with the local residents who have had to put up with over two years of roadworks and 13 broken promises from the Conservative Cabinet members who have overseen the roadworks.
“It is no wonder that people get cynical and want to make their point when they have been lied to so many times.
“We were really disappointed to see the administration vote down our sensible three-point plan to get roadworks back under control in the town and to stop the overruns and the cost to Swindon taxpayers when we proposed it back in November last year.
“It is clear that the Conservatives have done nothing since they voted that down, as the delays just keep on happening.”
However, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Infrastructure, Transport & Planning, Gary Sumner said the problem was nothing to do with the local authority.
Cllr Sumner said: “This scheme has been carried out by contractors who were awarded the contract.
“SBC staff - many of whom live locally don’t get up each day to make lives worse. Quite the opposite.
“The current delays are due to the contractor having to re-design a safety constraint and not down to SBC.”
Jim Robbins is standing for re-election in the Mannington and Western seat.
Gyan Prasad Gurung will be representing the Conservative Party, while Fraser McCormick will be standing for the Liberal Democrats.
Gary Sumner is not up for re-election as the Ridgeway Ward election is held every four years.
