A popular Swindon bar has suddenly closed, it has been confirmed.

Cheekies Bar on Fleet Street has shut its doors “for good” and the managers have revealed this is down to rising prices, including the price of alcohol.

Formerly Groves Company Inn, Cheekies took over the establishment in July 2021. The managers described the closure as a “hard decision”.

But a new bar will move into the Fleet Street premises and will hold a grand opening next Thursday, according to a Facebook post.

The new bar and nightclub will be known as Remix Bar and promises Friday and Saturday night clubbing as well as a “comfortable, friendly atmosphere" across the whole week "with great pub-style entertainment”.

In a statement, Cheekies Swindon management said: “Cheekies Swindon has had to close its doors for good.

“With prices of everything going up (including alcohol), we have made the hard decision to close.

“Staff have been informed and the owner and management wish them all the best in the future with what they choose to do.

“Want to say a huge thank you to our customers over the time we have been here and we wish you all the best.”

Remix Bar’s Facebook post said: “Consisting of a Friday and Saturday night with Clubbing and Dj Joe Theo mixed with Pool tables, Football tables, Darts, UV lighting, and some amazing sweet infused cocktails and a whole section where you can sit and chat with your mates without getting your ears blown out with some great packages on offer until 2am!

“During the week we will have all our tables open to play as you wish as well as a jukebox on the wall for you to control the music

“We have decided to continue the under 18 nappy night as well which will be held every other Wednesday so please keep an eye out for the information about it being released soon!

“We are also going to be working hard to give you an amazing sports setting coming closer to the world cup this year with multiple projectors and screens going to be added to the venue.

“We really look forward to seeing you all and we will share as much of our progress over the next week on what's going on inside Remix.”
