AN ARRAY of famous faces and royals will gather at Buckingham Palace for the party of the year celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and one lucky Swindon woman will join them.
Jane Scerri has learnt she’s one of 5,000 lucky people to bag a pair of tickets to the BBC’s Platinum Party at the Palace.
The concert on June 4 promises to bring together big names from the entertainment world to perform with a live orchestra and highlight major cultural moments from Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.
When the email bearing good news arrived in Jane’s inbox, she assumed it came from scammers and almost deleted it – then realised it was the real deal.
She told the Adver: “It was a fantastic surprise to receive the news. I’m still getting used to the fact that I’m actually going although I was informed prior to Easter.
“I’m generally a lucky person in many respects, with a positive attitude. My friends and family didn’t believe me at first, they’re more surprised than I was.
“It feels such an honour to kind of represent Swindon and I want to do us proud.”
Jane found out about the star-studded celebration by accident, as the BBC ballot link popped up while she looked for street parties in Swindon.
George Ezra will be among those performing at the palace but the rest of the line-up has not yet been revealed. It will be broadcast live across the BBC for those who can’t be there in person.
Jane added: “I applied because it sounded exciting and beautiful, something nice after everything that’s happened in the world, so I wanted to be there.
“I have no idea what the event is going to be like, so I’m looking forward to the excitement and anticipation of waiting in the queue to get in and chatting with other people who have also been chosen. The atmosphere will be wonderful.
“You have to nominate someone else to go with you – I suddenly got a lot of best friends!
“I’m taking an elderly friend as it has been their life-long dream to go. If anyone else from Wiltshire has won it would be great to exchange tips and ideas, particularly around transport to meet my guest’s needs.”
Any other Wiltshire winners can be put in touch with Jane via the Adver by calling 01793 501734 or emailing Daniel.angelini@newsquest.co.uk
