A Hannington man who admitted killing a beloved dad-of-two in a crash has been sentenced.
Toby Clay, 20, pleaded guilty to causing Paul Patterson's death by driving his Lexus without due care and attention on Cricklade Road on June 2 last year.
Mr Patterson, 47, was riding his Piaggio scooter when he was hit by the car last year on the stretch of road between Highworth and the A419. The Honda worker died at the scene.
Magistrates at Swindon Magistrates' Court gave Clay a community order for the offence on Wednesday (04/05).
This means Clay, of Skinners Close in Hannington, has been disqualified for 12 months and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within the next year.
He has been ordered to pay a £95 surcharge to victim services.
In a statement released after the tragic crash last year, Mr Patterson's family said: “Paul was a kind soul and family was everything. He loved his pets, especially his cat Yoda.
"He was a qualified carpenter and could turn his hand to all sorts.
"Always a perfectionist, he gave everything in life 100 per cent and loved the motto that ‘hard work beats talent’.
“Paul will be remembered by us as a strong, loving, respectful and honest man who would always protect us.”
