Motorists travelling west on the M4 are facing serve delays this evening.
The M49 is currently closed southbound between the M4 at Junction 22 and the M5 at Junction 18 after a multi-vehicle collision which has resulted in a large oil spill across the carriageway.
Emergency services including an air ambulance at currently at the scene.
Earlier, the motorway was closed in both directions, but the northbound stretch has now reopened for traffic.
Highways England has confirmed due to the serious nature of the incident the southbound stretch is expected to be closed for some time.
