A second partial closure notice of a car park has been put in place following complaints of large car meets in Swindon.

Today a Partial Closure Notice has been authorised and put in place at Kembrey Business Park, Techno Trading estate and Elgin Industrial Estate following complaints of loud car meets.

Wiltshire Police has continued to receive numerous reports regarding large car meets across the borough of Swindon.

The reports consist of vehicles reporting to be speeding, racing, creating loud noises, wheel spinning, drifting, and numerous reports of criminal damage due to the vehicle leaving burn marks on the ground.

This has caused members of the public, businesses and the larger community alarmed by harassment and distress.

A first partial closure notice at the car park at Sainsbury’s and B&M at Bridgemead was put in place on 23 May.

The court order will stay in place for three months and anyone found breaking the order could face a fine.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "We would also like to recognise that although the car meets have resulted in reports of Anti-social behaviour and the public concern for safety, the majority do use these events to showcase their vehicles only, do not partake in anti-social behaviour and do not commit offences.

"However, Wiltshire Police will not tolerate the behaviours reported and so further action has taken place."

Swindon Advertiser:

Wiltshire Police will be out in Swindon over the coming weekend conducting speed checks, enforcing, and educating those that attend the area that a Partial Closure Notice is now in place.

Police will be looking to enforce this and anyone breaching the Partial closure Notice could be liable for arrest and/or a fine.

The Police's Local Neighbourhood teams will also continue to work in conjunction with partner agencies, as well as the landowners and the retail outlets to deter and resolve the issues raised by the public and make sure they don't reappear.

"We want to reassure the public that these issues are being taken seriously and that we are working to make the roads safer for all."

This statement has made residents say that a place needs to be put out where people can have these car meets undisturbed as 'closing down the town is not an option'.
