1988: A man with a head for heights cuts the grass covering a wartime hangar at RAF Hullavington.
The former base, which opened in 1937, still has several grass-camouflaged hangars. One of them houses an indoor karting track, others are part of Dyson's second UK technology campus.
Once the home of maintenance units and training schools flying everything from Mosquitos, and Hurricanes to Lancaster bombers, it shut in 1992 and was handed to the army, which renamed it Buckley Barracks.
For many years air cadets were given their first taste of flying by 621 and 625 Volunteer Gliding Schools. But they moved out in 2016 when Dyson took over the airfield area.
The site has been designated a conservation area and several buildings, including hangars, the quartermaster's stores, the church, the officers' mess and the canteen have been listed.
