Crime is on the rise in Swindon, new data from Police.uk shows.

There has been a big increase in reported crimes in Swindon since the beginning of 2022.

Although the number of crimes was at a high in the summer of 2021, with 1,943 crimes being reported in Swindon in June that year, it calmed down during the winter months.

Here is all the crimes reported in May within the town.

In total, there were 1944 reported crimes around Swindon during the month of May, which is an increase of 9.8% from the 1770 crimes reported in April of the same year.

It's also a 3% increase from the 1874 crimes reported in Swindon in May 2021.

There is an ongoing pattern where the number of crimes reported rises during the summer months of the year, starting around May each year.

The following map shows all the crimes reported in Swindon in May 2022.

Just like the previous months, the most common crime was violence and sexual offences, with 711 reported incidents in May, equaling 36% of all crimes. This is a slight increase from 32% in the same month last year.

The town centre was once again the hot spot for crimes in Swindon, with 287 crimes taking place there. This was slightly lower compared to May 201, when 341 crimes were reported there.

The crimes in the town centre mainly consisted of shoplifting (78), violence and sexual offences (62) and anti-social behaviour (61).

Bridgmead had a big increase of anti-social behaviour being reported compared to previous months, which could be related to the loud car meets that took place there that month.

Compared to April, the month before, antisocial behaviour in and around Bridgmead rose from 36 to 71, a 97% increase.

Meanwhile, crimes around Liden and Coate have decreased in the past year, from 103 crimes reported in May 2021, to 57 crimes reported in May 2022.

Overall, the town centre, Walcot, Bridgemead and Haydon Wick stood out as the most crime-prone areas in May 2022, with over 100 crimes occurring in each part of the town, and 400 in the town centre.

The least reported crime in April was possession of weapons, with 19 reported incidents taking place. These took place in the town centre, Freshbrook, Pinehurst, Moredon, Haydon Wick, Eldene and Wroughton.

Looking at previous crime patterns, crime numbers in Swindon are expected to rise again for June.
