THE town centre's food court has a new arrival serving up delicious and authentic Malaysian cuisine.

The Crossing inside the Brunel Shopping Centre has a range of restaurants and street food-style stalls, from big chains like Subway and Chopstix to smaller local pop-ups like Taste of India, Juice Cafe and Hot Box.

Now, Jennis Elliott is the latest to set up shop with Makan Kiosk, which she manages with business partner Michelle.

Difficulties during the pandemic's lockdowns led to them closing the business in Gorse Hill but it has now found a new home.

Jennis said: "A lot of people come here specifically for my food because there's not much else like it in Swindon.

"The Malaysian Kari Laksa curry is the most popular dish. I see a lot of repeat customers, they're very loyal, and I like seeing people relaxed and happy and enjoying their meals.

"I want to have a lot of variety and try to keep things fresh by having special dishes on Sundays. I make everything fresh each day and am constantly looking at ways to improve.

"Now that I know what people want and what they are looking for, I'm going to revamp the menu after the summer and add more snacks and desserts."

Some of her regular customers have followed her over along with several new ones during the first month in the Brunel.

Tony Stirton is one of them. He ordered two roti canai with curry sauce and the nasi lemak bungkus rice dish.

Tony said: "The food here is really good.

"I used to live and work in Malaysia and I order what I used to have for lunch and breakfast there, it's really authentic and brings back memories.

"It's hard to find good Malaysian food anywhere so having it on your doorstep is great."

The menu also includes spiral curry puffs, beef rendang, fried chicken wanton with Maggie Chili sauce, and Gan Lao Mein.

Drinks on offer include Teh Tarik classic Malaysian pulled tea, jasmin tea, honey lemon tea, Milo, Malaysian white coffe, and Kopi-o.

Call 07943 901962, visit the Facebook page or www.makan-kiosk.co.uk, or pop over in person from 11.15am and 4.15pm every day.
