A Swindon man was sentenced to prison after being caught driving whilst more than double the legal limit in a Suffolk village.
Craig Nelson was stopped by police on the A14 in the village of Beyton in Suffolk on June 24.
A breathalyser test revealed that Nelson wasn't sober when driving. It recorded 96 micrograms in 100ml of breath, where the legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Police also realised that the driver did not have a third-party insurance.
Nelson, of High Street in Wroughton, faced Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich the day after the incident, on June 25, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without insurance.
Nelson was sentenced to prison for 18 weeks.
Magistrates deemed the offence was so serious that only immediate custody was justified because the "length of distance driven was substantial, very high reading, clear evidence of poor driving, previous non-compliance with court orders and has three previous drink driving offences in the last ten years", court records show.
He was also fined costs of £105, and a further £158 as a surcharge to fund victim services.
The 36-year-old was also banned from driving for five years - extended by 63 days to take into account the time he will spend in prison.
