HOLLYWOOD royalty landed at Fairford this morning as Tom Cruise made a shock appearance at the Royal International Air Tattoo.

Top Gun's very own Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell is in the country after reportedly celebrating his 60th birthday at a star-studded party held at the Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds.

He was pictured enjoying the displays at the RIAT today and was spotted heading into the hospitality pavilion.

Recently, he has been snapped at an Adele concert and with Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone during his visit to the UK.

Excited RIAT organisers shared his arrival at the airbase with fans on social media this morning, saying: "He can be our wingman any time!"

The sell-out event not far from Swindon is this year celebrating 75 years of the US Air Force, so Cruise's appearance is fitting.

His second Top Gun movie - Top Gun: Maverick - features the kind of jets wowing the crowds at Fairford and has proved a Box Office smash hit, grossing more than $1 billion so far.
