Do you remember those early days - when I arrived a naughty pup?
Chewing books and slippers and slurping from your cup,
How you laughed and how you giggled - you loved me like a babe.
And all my misdemeanours - you dutifully forgave,
You told me off for chasing cats - but I didn't really care,
For I was young - mischievous and life was but a dare;
I confess the ladies loved me - my big brown eyes - what style,
They stopped to talk and stroke me and I lingered all the while,
But I started feeling weary, too tired to run and play,
No urge to chase those moggies - just sleep the day away...
The time had come to leave you - something made me know,
My time with you had ended, I really had to go;
My life on earth has been wonderful from the beginning to the end,
Because of your love and kindness, my soul-mate and best friend,
I'm really not so far away, and I'll always be in your heart,
Think about me often and we'll never be apart.
