WOOTTON Bassett Ladies 1sts, facing one of their sternest tests of the season, lost 8-2 at home to Falmouth, who are currently second in Premier 2.

The visitors showed their supremacy in a spectacular display of speed and accuracy.

They scored the first goal after 15 minutes and added a second two minutes later.

Well drilled short corners resulted in four further goals, with Bassett managing to pull back only one, before half-time.

This was scored by Vicky Field who flicked the ball neatly into goal after a slick pass from Helen Siviter, back in the team after recent injury.

The home side, 6-1 down, tightened their marking and passing in the second half, and Falmouth were able to score only two more goals, while Bassett's Suzanne Montgomery increased the home side's tally to two. Tracy Fieldsend was player of the match.

On Saturday, Bassett will face Plymouth Marjons, away.

BASSETT Ladies 3rds picked up a point at home when they drew 1-1 with Cirencester 2nds in Severn 3.

Cirencester went ahead in the first half, but their continued pressure on Wootton Bassett's defence proved to no avail.

Twenty minutes into the second half, new player Maria Vincent passed the ball to Vivienne Hayward, who broke through to equalise.

Cirencester strove to restore their lead but their efforts were thwarted. Maria Vincent was voted player of the match.

On Saturday Wootton Bassett 3rds will travel to Gloucester 4ths.

BASSETT 2nds were defeated 3-2 by Cirencester, away, in Severn 1. The half-time score was 1 - 1, but Cirencester just had the edge, in a keenly contested game.
