JAMIE Cox has returned to his Swindon roots as he continues to look for an extra edge that will help him in his bid to become World Champion.

The Swindon southpaw is still committed to Richie Woodhall's Birmingham-based training team but, on a part-time basis, will also start developing his skills in his home town.

When not in Birmingham, Cox will be training with Paddy Fitzpatrick at his Boxing Academy in Maxwell Street and he is relishing the chance of giving something back to Swindon.

Cox said: "I train five times a week in Birmingham with Richie and Lennie Woodhall but now, if for any reason I can't make it, I will come to Paddy's and train here.

"Paddy setting up this gym has really given me the chance to train more in Swindon. I love boxing in Swindon because it is my home and it is where my family is."

Cox's next professional fight, having won his first four, is on March 22 in Cardiff and he believes the extra help of Fitzpatrick can only further his progression.

"Paddy is an excellent pad man. He has worked with some great boxers in America. He has a lot of knowledge and is a great coach.

"Working with Richie and Lennie in Birmingham and then with Paddy back here means I have the best of both worlds. It can only help me get stronger."

Fitzpatrick started his academy late last year as he bids to put Swindon on the boxing map.

He said: "It is great to have Jamie here when he is not in Birmingham and I believe there is more than one piece of talent flying around.

"Swindon has always had one boxer at a time but I believe we can have more than that. The academy is for everyone though and is going well."

Cox is putting on an exhibition at an open day at the Boxing Academy on Saturday, starting 12noon, with anyone welcome.
