ORGANISERS have hailed the Advertiser's job fair a roaring success after more than 3,000 people flocked through the doors.

The day-long event, now in its 15th year, was held at the DeVere Hotel in Shaw Ridge yesterday.

It was an opportunity for the public to come and speak to a number of local companies, show their CVs and exchange contact details.

Businesses on show included Zurich and Welcome Break. Swindon College were also present as was the Prospect Hospice and a number of agencies including Concept Staffing.

Co-organiser of the day Jayne Townley said: "The aim is for people to come along and look at jobs that are available locally.

"It is also the first time we have had an advice room."

One of the many visitors to the fair was Dean Hepworth, 27, from Wootton Bassett who said: "It's the first time I've been here and I'm looking for bar management or something in the retail sector," he said.

Town centre resident Kevin Hackett, 38, said: "I've been out of work since July and I'm looking to get some engineering work.

"There are a lot of companies here and I'm surprised by how many people have come along."

Maria Beaton, the regional resourcing officer for Barclays said: "We are looking for motivated people and previous bank experience is not essential.

"I think anyone with retail experience is a plus."

Yvone Hanley was at the fair for Prospect. She said: "People might think we are here as we are looking to just recruit nurses but that is not always the case," she said.

"We are also looking for a trust fundraiser and someone to look after our lottery."

Nationwide, who sponsored the event, were very pleased with the turnout and said it was an experience they wanted to be part of.

The next job fair is due to be held in September.
