Travellers are being ordered to leave after setting up camp in a North Wiltshire town on Sunday night.
Up to six caravans were spotted on the Filands Estate in Malmesbury.
Alison Boucheron-Cross, formerly of Malmesbury now living in Highworth, spoke about the encampment.
She said: “I'm not against travellers but if they leave a mess then that causes a problem.
“Personally, I think we should have approved sites like campsites around the UK with basic facilities such as toilets etc.
“This way they can move and are less likely to leave mess or there be any issues.”
Wiltshire Council has confirmed action is being taken to remove the travellers.
Coun Nick Botterill, the cabinet member for development management, said: “We are aware of an encampment at Filands Field, our enforcement officers will be visiting the site to carry out welfare checks and issue notice to leave the site.”
The case is the latest in a number of illegal encampments that have happened across Wiltshire.
In Highworth a pub decided to close on Friday after a group arrived at Highworth Rec.
Swindon Borough Council issued a notice for the group of travellers to leave the area by 10am on Saturday morning.
