Three decades ago Fleet Street was home to a bustling weekend market.
Shoppers could buy their weekly veggies, pastries and meats from stalls on the site of the former Co-op stores complex between the Sir Daniel Arms and Bridge Street.
Robin Earle, a member of our We Grew Up in Swindon Facebook group, took several of the images in this gallery - all around 1983.
He said: "It ran it think from the late 1970s to the mid 1980s when the land was to be developed into the scintillating complex of the building which stands there today.
"The market was held on Saturdays and Sundays, organised by Dougie Grant, with an eclectic mixture of market stalls – it was very popular with Swindon people.
"Dougie bought the coop building and the Sir Daniel Arms from profits he accumulated over years of selling fruit and veg. He was born in Limes Avenue and became a driver for Harry Baum (Reliable Fruit) then bought out Tommy Dickens fruit business and at one time had eight shops in Swindon including market stalls.
"He could be found every Saturday in the old market shouting about his 'offers .. not because he needed to but he just liked to recreate the feel of the London markets he loved."
