CONVICTED paedophile and supermarket employee Steven Spencer has hit the headlines after a national newspaper printed pictures of him delivering food to a nursery.
Spencer, 35, of Pink Lane, Charlton, near Malmesbury, walked free from court in July after being convicted of hoarding hundreds of pornographic images.
Sainsbury's bosses in Chippenham, where Spencer works, kept him on but have since suspended him after The Sun newspaper took pictures of him dropping food off at Snapdragons Nursery in Corsham.
The tabloid pictures him just yards away from a child, while delivering food to the nursery.
A Sainsbury's spokesman said: "Specific instructions to ensure this colleague would not be near children were not followed.
"Although he was accompanied at all times by another colleague, it is totally unacceptable.
"He is not at work while we carry out a complete investigation."
Michele Elliott, of charity Kidscape, said: "It makes my blood boil."
Spencer was not banned from working with children after a judge ruled it wasn't necessary.
Wiltshire Police were contacted by colleagues in Lancashire in August 2005 after they had arrested someone who had been sent indecent pictures of children by Spencer.
Police found 283 indecent images of children, most of which were at the lower levels of seriousness.
Ex-Scout leader Spencer was given a suspended sentence in July and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
