FIRE crews have been battling Swindon's second field blaze in as many days.
Less than 24 hours after huge fire was reportedly caused by a snapped power line in a field near Day House Lane, 999 crews were called to a fire in Wichelstowe that broke out at around 9pm on Saturday.
Smoke from the blaze was carried towards West Swindon, with many residents saying on social media they were able to smell smoke on social media.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue posted about the fire, urging locals to close their doors and windows to keep the smoke out.
"We have crews in attendance at Wichelstowe dealing with a field fire," it said. "The smoke seems to be drifting across towards Toothill and surrounding areas. We are advising residents to keep their windows and doors closed at this time."
Swindon has been put into drought status because of the hot weather and lack of rainfall. Another consequence of these weather conditions is DRFRS declaring the fire severity alert is red.
People have been asked to not have campfires or bonfires and to only barbecue at home - keeping it away from dry vegetation, sheds and fences.
The Adver has approached the fire service for an update on the status of the Wichelstowe fire.
