A teenage cyclist has pleaded guilty to a 160-year-old charge after harming another man.
Robert Michael Mobey pleaded guilty to one count of causing bodily harm by wanton or furious driving.
The court heard he was in charge of a bicycle in Swindon on November 19, 2021, and by 'wanton or furious driving', harmed another person.
The offence is contrary to section 35 of the 161-year-old Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment – although Mobey, 18, was reassured by Judge James Townsend he would not be going to jail.
The judge adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report.
Addressing Mobey, who the court heard has not been in trouble with the law before, Judge Townsend said: “I’m not going to sentence you today because the court needs more information about you from the probation service.
“You’ll come back here on the 9th of September for sentence.
“I bear in mind your age, you’ve never been in trouble before, and the purpose of getting a probation report is to see whether there is community disposal for this case.
“You’re not going to go to prison for this, don’t worry.”
Judge Townsend adjourned the case until September 9, at the same court.
Mobey, of Somerville Road, was released on bail.
