SWINDON College students have been displaying their handiwork at Nationwide.

The mature students - who are reaching the end of their two-year course in ceramics - grabbed the attention of workers passing time in their lunch hour.

The mini-exhibition was designed to give the artists a taste of a real art showcase.

Student Sue Dickinson designed her pieces around a nautical theme, while fellow artists drew inspiration from colour and animals.

Sue, from Old Town, said: "I just started a course in pottery because it is something I fancied doing.

"I then went on to do an access course not knowing whether I wanted to really continue it and two years later here I am."

Sue was kept busy at the showcase with a lot of interest in her work, especially in her sea-inspired jewellery and pendants which fetched more than a few admiring glances.

After completing the course, the talented potter hopes to make a living from her art, creating sculptures to order or opening her own studio.

She added: "I am hoping to sell my work in the future either on a market stall or by opening my own shop.

"The course has been excellent and it is a great opportunity for adults to get into creative further education."
