CALLS were made from Ridgeway School to defendants on the day Henry Webster was assaulted, the second hammer attack trial has heard.

The jury at Bristol Crown Court heard evidence, via video link, from a Ridgeway pupil who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Roubel Meah, 20, of County Road, Mahbul Ali, 18, of Broad Street, Javad Khan, 20, of Manchester Road, Mizonur Rahman, 19, of Broad Street, Bilal Yakub, 18, of Nursery View Faringdon, Aqduss Rauf, 18, of Hereford Lawns and Kumran Khan, 19, of Drove Road, and a 15-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, all deny conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm and violent disorder.

The 16-year-old told Bristol Crown Court yesterday that he let another pupil borrow his mobile phone on the day Henry was attacked with a hammer.

James Patrick for the prosecution told the court that the phone was used to call Roubel Meah and the 15-year-old defendant, so they could organise planning the attack.

Mr Patrick showed the witness a log of telephone calls and asked: "Can you see all the telephone calls made from your phone? That number is Roubel Meah's. Did you call Roubel Meah?"

The boy answered: "No. I don't know Roubel Meah."

He also told the court: "When I arrived at the tennis courts there was no-one there. I went outside and saw a group of Asian males walking down Inverary Road.

"There were about four or five of them. One of them didn't have his hood up but the others did.

"They were just walking slowly towards the tennis courts."

The trial continues.
