WORK is being carried out on the former Swindon home of TK Maxx.

The popular retailer moved to Mannington Retail Park earlier this summer and now its replacement seems to be getting ready to set up shop.

Last year, the company which owns Home Bargains submitted plans for a 'comprehensive refurbishment' of the large unit on Great Western Way which would include new cladding, an external display area, a new customer entrance/exit lobby, alterations to the car park and a cafe space.

TJ Morris' plans have been approved, as have two more applications submitted in February and May this year which proposed minor tweaks to the site layout and minor external alterations to the unit, mainly the removal of a mezzanine.

The plans suggest the new Home Bargains branch will create up to 100 new jobs and result in "a modest increase in the retail goods currently permitted to be sold from the existing floorspace".

In the last few days, metal fencing has been set up around the car park and the entrance has been blocked off, with signs warning passerby that the area is now a construction site.

TK Maxx is now occupying the old John Lewis at Home building.
