A CHIPPENHAM headteacher is among the first in the country to complete a course on leadership.

Lisa Tudor, of Monkton Park Primary School, is leading the way after completing a year-long programme called Head For The Future.

The course was designed by the National College For School Leadership, the Hay Group and partners to further equip experienced headteachers with the skills to tackle challenges facing schools in the 21st Century.

The successful headteachers were among a group of only 30 in the country to complete the final stage of their journey.

It took the form of a one-day conference with workshops which was at Hatherley Manor, in Gloucester.

Di Morton, NCS's operational director for commissioning, said: "These headteachers should be proud of their achievement as Head For The Future is a fast-paced programme.

"It demands both personal reflection and a commitment to action."

Mrs Tudor's participation on the course comes after Monkton Park Primary School was ranked in the top 11 per cent of all primary schools in the country following outstanding SAT results in December.

It received exceptional grades, scoring 100 per cent in science, 97 per cent in English and 94 per cent in maths.

It also gained the second highest score in the county of 88 per cent for the level five science exam.
